We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. West during her search for a new website designer and hosting company for her business, Mend Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. She was on an older design on a cheap hosting package, which resulted in a failing PageSpeed Insights score.

Dr. West’s website was not structured properly with headers, content, image sizes, and SEO. As the site aged, it became clunky, challenging to update, and she could not be found on Google search engine. She decided it was time for a website redesign. Here’s what was involved for this acupuncture website design project:

Who is Mend Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine?

At Mend Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, their mission is to help their patients get healthy and happy without the use of surgery, radiation, or medications. They treat the body, not just the symptoms. This trusted integrative doctor in Gilbert, Arizona is an acupuncture and chinese medicine clinic providing the best integrative services to their patients. Mend Acupuncture specializes in infertility treatment, herbal medicine, cold laser therapy, medical microneedling, and cupping therapy.

Goal for the Health Website Redesign

We wanted the new health website redesign to target mostly women in Gilbert, AZ or within driving distance who are looking for integrative care services through Google search engine. The website would need to provide enough valuable content for Dr. West’s users so they can trust her capabilities, get to know her educational background and experience, and understand how her integrative care services can help them. Once they become confident in her ability to treat them, we want it easy for them to book an appointment online.

Here was our strategy to meet this goal:

The type of new users who will be using Mend Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine’s website look like this:

  • By the time Dr. West’s patients get to her, they are either in pain, frustrated with a lack of results, or depressed because they aren’t fertile.
  • Acupuncture may be new and scary for them. They are fed up with the doctors they have seen in the past and already spent thousands of dollars. Oftentimes, Dr. West will be a final resort for them.

After our web team brainstormed and did research on successful medical websites as well as discussed Mend Acupunture’s current design, here’s what we found:

  • Dr. West has a very impressive track record, educational background, and hundreds of impressive patient reviews. She also has a legit business and medical office. Because of this, it was crucial we designed her website to portray a medical professional. However, because the patients being scheduled are either depressed due to infertility or can’t find relief for their pain, they need to feel hopeful. Most people may also feel intimidated by needles, so it was important to make her users feel safe while putting them at ease. They also need to experience a sense of a light at the end of the tunnel.

To accomplish this, our design team used background photos that resemble a state of health, peace, or relaxation. We did this through photos of nature and women happy or feeling free. We also utilized Mend’s brand colors as a smooth gradient for a non-threatening, relaxing vibe. We used squiggly lines for the same reason, and to break away from the generic straight lines that many medical websites use.

Differentiating headers and body fonts

Fonts

For the headers, we used Alegreya Sans. This is a humanist sans serif family with a calligraphic feeling that conveys a dynamic and varied rhythm. Humanist sans-serif typefaces show evidence of a human holding a pen. They have roots in calligraphy and evoke a feeling of warmth and personality. It’s also a great attention-grabber for headings.

For the body font, we used Montserrat. This is a commonly used font because it’s professional, yet modern and one of the easiest fonts to read for all ages.

Page Layout

Different from their old website, their menu header is much more user-friendly with these features:

  • The Book Online and the Patient Portal button to make it easier for the patients.
  • Clicking the logo will bring users back to the homepage.
  • Potential patients can also search your site in case they want to find more information about a specific topic.

All Treatable Conditions and Service pages are structured the same to support consistency and allow her patients to get familiar with the design. All pages have a Page Title Header container. This includes proper header styling, an overview of the page content, and a “Book Appointment” button as the initial call-to-action.

Mend Acupuncture’s website has a lot of valuable information and offers a lot of educational benefits. While this is highly encouraged, it can make it difficult for people to maneuver around the page as well as absorb all of the information without getting overwhelmed. So we added a Table of Contents element. This improves both Search Engine Optimization (SEO), as well as the user experience.

All pages include properly structured headers, SEO, call-to-actions, additional content our content creators wrote, and linking to relevant pages for educational value.

Our design team put all references in their own container within toggles and in small text. This ensures Dr. West’s credibility without making this the main focus of her pages.

We then added a carousel of revolving patient reviews with the option to view all of them on one page. Under that, we have a container where a new patient can start their journey by clicking the “Book Now” button.

Status Update

April 2024 – 1 Month After Launch

Recently, Dr. West says she is still happy with the design of her website and is excited to start building historical data on Google Analytics so we can start tracking the performance. After only a month of launching the new website, Google is already placing her on the first page of their search engine for specific terms such as “acupuncture” and “cupping therapy” in Gilbert. We can’t wait to see what the next 6 months brings!

May 2024 – 2 Months After Launch

We are pleased that two months after the launch of Mend Acupuncture’s new website, we are showing incredible results on Google Search Console. Before the new website redesign, their website could not be found organically on Google Search Engine for any key phrases. They are now ranking position #1 in her service area for many search terms, including the ones in the Google Search Console Screenshot below:

October 2024 – 7 Months After Launch

Dr. West confirmed that she is scheduled out over a month now, and has seen consistent and gradual growth since we launched the website. The Google Search Console data shows the performance of their website for various search queries. Here’s an analysis highlighting progress:

1. Top-Performing Query: “Mend Acupuncture”
  • Clicks: 161
  • Impressions: 585
  • Click-Through Rate (CTR): 27.52%
  • Position: 4.91
  • Insight: This branded keyword is generating a significant share of clicks and has a strong CTR, indicating effective brand visibility and engagement.
2. Strong Local Visibility: “Acupuncture Gilbert AZ”
  • Clicks: 69
  • Impressions: 1,458
  • CTR: 4.73%
  • Position: 4.59
  • Insight: The query has a high volume of impressions, showing that the site is capturing local search traffic well. However, there is room for improvement in CTR and ranking position.
3. High Intent Queries: “Acupuncture Near Me”
  • Clicks: 61
  • Impressions: 418
  • CTR: 14.59%
  • Position: 7.14
  • Insight: The phrase targets users with immediate intent, showing good CTR, but ranking improvements could increase clicks.

  • CTR: 7.92%

  • Insight: This general search term is competitive, and further optimization can help improve its ranking and engagement.
